Thomas C. McCloskey

CANFIELD -- Thomas C. McCloskey, 85, died at home Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, after a two-year battle with Merkel cell cancer.

Tom was born May 2, 1941, in Youngstown, to Charles McCloskey and the former Helen Smith. Following his parent's divorce at the age of 5, he was fostered in the loving home of Dick and Claire Weller.

Upon his 1959 graduation from Woodrow Wilson High School, he joined the Air Force and served for four years.

Returning to Youngstown, he worked at the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co., where he became a journeyman machinist. He then earned an associate degree in business at YSU, moving him into a supervisory role. When Sheet & Tube closed, Tom went to work at GM-Lordstown as a supervisor of skilled trades until his retirement.

Tom enjoyed golf, playing in many leagues. He was especially happy to get a hole-in-one while playing with his son. Later in his retirement, as a member of the Salem and the Knox gun clubs, he competed in trap shooting around the Valley.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lynne Engelhardt; son, Ross (Jennifer) of Ashland and their boys, Alex and Ross; daughter, Wendy (John) Schneider of Howland and their children, Charles (Julianna), Emily (Phil) Miele and Owen; daughter-in-law, Lauralee of Dublin and sons, Thomas and Michael; brother, Bob (Jeanette); sister, Jeannie Eakins; and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his cherished son, Eric, and his sister, Amy Fitchet.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

The service will conclude with military honors. Immediately following, a celebration of life will be hosted at A La Cart Catering in Canfield.
