Thomas Stephen Bero

Apr 11, 1949 — Jul 1, 2026

POLAND - Thomas Steven Bero, 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home in New Middletown, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born on April 11, 1949, in Youngstown, the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth "Betty" Bero.

He was a 1967 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, where he participated in basketball and track and field. Following graduation, Tom entered the workforce and held positions with H.J. Heinz, E. & J. Gallo, Commercial Shearing, Ohio Edison, and Warren Wholesale.

Tom spent the majority of his career with Ohio Edison. He began in the maintenance division before transferring to the forestry department, where he worked tirelessly for 12 consecutive days helping restore power following the devastating 1985 tornadoes. He later became a lineman before leaving Ohio Edison in 1993 to continue the next chapter of his career.

Tom was an avid New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed woodworking, sailing, classic cars, and had a remarkable ability to fix just about anything. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and especially loved his five grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret "Moggie" Bero; his children, Aaron (Jennifer) Bero, Mandi (Jeff) Saluga, and Joshua (Noelle) Bero; his five grandchildren, Anderson, Giada, Mia, Thomas, and Andrew; and his siblings, Edward (Rose) Bero, Bob Bero, Suzanne Pinkerton, and Beth (Phil) Hostetter.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Masternick Memorial Nursing Home, where Tom resided for the past five years following a traumatic brain injury, as well as to Sanctuary Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and exceptional care they provided to Tom and his family.

Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel. Prayers will be held at 11:30 AM at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Family Church.

In accordance with Tom's wishes, he will be cremated, and his ashes will be taken to Hawaii.
