CANFIELD — Sylvia Ann Margiotta Evans departed this life, Saturday, April 20, 2024. 

She was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Frank and Katherine Cannal Margiotta.

Sylvia graduated from The Rayen High School and immediately began working at Metropolitan Savings and Loan as a receptionist. While employed full-time, she attended Youngstown State University, graduated with a bachelor’s degree, and became the first female loan officer at Metropolitan Savings and Loan. She remained at the “Met” for her entire professional career and continued to move up the corporate ladder to become one of the key administrators in the human resources and training departments. Sylvia retired from the “Met” in 1985 after the death of her husband, Stanley Evans.

Sylvia was a longtime member of St. Edward Church and then St. Christine Church in Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and-sisters-in-law, Jim (Ann), Sam (Elvira), Pete (Pearl) and Joe (Dolores) Margiotta; and her sister and-brothers-in-law, Nean (Steve) Kondas and Phyllis (Dominic) Bettura. She also was preceded in death by a nephew, Franklin Margiotta; and nieces, Linda Margiotta and MaryKay Margiotta Shay.

Sylvia had a very close relationship with her sister Phyllis and her family, as she lived with them through much of her adult life until she married. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, a nephew, Joe (Sharon) Bettura; and their children and grandchildren, Joseph Michael Bettura, Joelle (Steve), Enzo, Emilio and Estella Rose Stack, and Jared (Addie)and Cecelia Bettura; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to her niece, Kathy Margiotta Buonavolonta, who actively participated in Sylvia’s care in her later years; as well as several wonderful friends and neighbors to include Kathy and Ed Marshall, Mike and Melynda Guerrieri, Linda Moll, Carol Organ and caregiver, Jeanine Nye. 

A special thank you to Akeso Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Sylvia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown. 

Sylvia will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.

Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
