Susan Sveda

Struthers -- Services will be held with the Very Reverend John Staffaro officiating at 9:00 AM Saturday in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 301 Struthers-Liberty Rd. in Campbell for Susan M. Sveda, age 61, of Struthers, who fell asleep in the arms of the Lord Tuesday morning after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 19, 1943 in Struthers, a daughter of John and Mary Petrus Sveda and moved to Cleveland in 1961, returning here in 2000.
She had attended Highland Avenue and Fifth Street elementary schools and graduated in 1961 from Struthers High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Medical Technology in 1962 and did her residency at Polyclinic in Cleveland. She worked as a medical technologist for Bayless Laboratories for 10 years, worked at Southgate Medical Laboratory for 18 years and then worked at University Hospital for 2 years. She also worked as membership director for the Cleveland YMCA for 5 yers.. Upon returning here she worked as a day care provider for Tiny Tots Pre-School in Struthers. She was a member of the church and its O Club. She was a member of the reunion committee for the Struthers High School class of 1961 and a member of the Struthers High School All Alumni Event committee. She was a member of the Greek Catholic Union Lodge 302 and Struthers AARP 3105.
She leaves a son Daniel Mandy Lucas, Jr. of Lowellville; a sister Anna Jean Don Dean of Boardman; a brother John P. Sveda, Safety Service Director for Struthers; three grandchildren, Julia Marie Lucas, Danielle Nicole Lucas and Joseph Andrew Lucas, all of Aurora; Michael J. Kisak, her special friend and caregiver, of Youngstown; five aunts, her godmother Anna Matis of Struthers, Mildred Petrus of Boardman, Loretta Petrus of Poland; and Olga Sveda and Veronica Sveda, both of Austintown; two nephews, JeffreyDr. Lindsy Dean of Columbus and Jon Dean of Boardman; a godson Frank Pohar and his sister Jennifer of Philadelphia; and many dear cousins and friends in the area.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son and daughter, and several aunts and uncles; her godfather Michael Matis, John and Anna Petrus, Joseph and Paul Petrus, Harry and Olga Sveda, Michael and Theodore Sveda, Steve Sveda and several cousins.
Friends may call from 4 to 8:00 PM, Friday at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Rd. Rt. 224 , where a Parastas Service will be held at 7:30.
Friends may also call from 8:30 AM till 9:00 AM Saturday in the church.
Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
