BOARDMAN - Steven P. Welcsh, 81, passed away Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after a long and courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia with his loving family by his side.
He was born February 10, 1944 in Youngstown and lived here all his life.
Steve will always be remembered for his love and dedication to God and his family.
He was a very active member of St. Maron Parish, the St. Tobias Society and played on the church's bocce league and bowling league in the past.
Steve worked as an iron worker and welder through the Local 207. He retired from his career that he relished only to care for his grandchildren that he adored.
Steve was a vibrant outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, skiing, boating, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He also loved wine making, and spending time at the casino.
He traveled extensively through Europe and the United States as well as cruising the world over.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Raduly Welcsh; his brother, Thomas Welcsh, his father and mother-in-law, Charles and Josephine Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Simon Sarkis and John Acerra and a sister-in-law, Barbara Acerra.
Steve leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 60 years, Marian Thomas Welsch, whom he married May 21, 1966; his daughter, Charlotte (Keith) Rogers of Canfield; his grandchildren, Andrew (Maggie Paris) Rogers and Sara Rogers; along with numerous sisters and brothers-in-law as well as several nieces and nephews.
For all those lucky enough to know and be loved by him, he was considered our hero.
Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 AM at St. Maron Maronite Catholic Church on Saturday December 13, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11AM.
