Boardman TWP A Memorial service will be held at the chapel at Calvary
Cemetery on July 31
st at 10 AM for Rose Smallwood, 84, of Boardman who
passed away on Friday morning on July 17
th 2026 , at Park Center Health Care
Facility of Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma.
Rose was born September 25, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late
Anthony and Helen ( Brosnack ) Pomaro. She was a graduate of South High
School , class of 1959. Rose met the love of her life Monte Smallwood while
both working at Kessler Products in Youngstown, Ohio. Monte and Rose wed
on June 27, 1984. Rose went on to work as an office clerk at Boardman
Glenwood Middle School where all the students lovingly addressed her as "
Grandma". After retiring in 2008, Rose could be found in any of the area
churches playing Bingo and making friends. She enjoyed crafts, a good cookie
and was a big Elvis fan.
Rose was known above all as a gentle, sweet and a generous.
woman who readily adopted anyone she met as family. She radiated love and
joy and if you knew Rose you experienced her " Love Bubble" , her love for
people could be felt in the room when she stepped into it. Even after her
departure from this earth her presence lingers still with all of those her life has
touched. Every kindness Rose extended left a little light behind. Always with
a kind word, a smile , a gift of cookies or candy , none of it wasted. The world
is a softer place because she was in it.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley DeGregory and her brother,
Donald " Peppy" Pomaro.
Besides her loving husband Monte, Rose leaves her nieces, nephews and loving
staff and friends at Park Center a place she considered " Home ".
- Values are like fingerprints. Nobodys are the same, but you leave them all
over everything you do. - Elvis
