Richard A. Semivan passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of the late Andrew and Stella Macirynski Semivan.
A proud alumnus of Austintown Fitch High School, Richard served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he pursued a career as an electrician, contributing his skills to US Steel, Republic Steel and WCI, retiring after 42 years.Richard was an active and valued member of St. Blaise Parish, particularly St. Joseph Church, where he was known for his role at the lectern. Additionally, he was engaged in numerous hobbies, including fishing and harness racing, and was a dedicated member of the downtown YMCA, where he would often participate in Bible studies.One of Richard’s most treasured traditions was spending over four decades in the summer enjoying serenity and fellowship at the Virginia Beach campsite, creating countless memories that he held dear. One of his true passions was fishing with friends on Lake Erie. He also took immense pride in his membership with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).Richard’s family was the cornerstone of his life.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Carolyn Absalom Semivan; his sons, Jeffrey (Marianne), David and Stephen (Cari) Semivan; his sister, Dolores (Gordon) Stanton; grandchildren, Jenna (Aaron) Hoxworth, Andrew and Abbey Semivan; and great-grandchildren Riley and Ethan Hoxworth.
Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave.A prayer service will be 10:15 a.m. April 9 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church.
Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
