Richard Michael Miller

October 7, 1931 — February 7, 2026

Austintown- Richard M. "Dick" Miller, age 94, passed away peacefully on Feb.7, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family.

Born in Youngstown in 1931 to Michael John and Anna Janosik Miller, he was a lifelong Youngstown resident.

Following his graduation from Chaney High School in 1949, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean War. Stationed state-side at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a Medic with X-Ray Technician training, he received the National Defense Service Medal for his service. Upon being given an honorable discharge at the rank of Sergeant, he went on to dedicate his life to providing for his family.

Dick worked at Youngstown Sheet & Tube for 24 years, and then Copperweld Steel until his retirement. While at the Sheet and Tube Research Center, his team was photographed in 1969 for Iron Age Magazine demonstrating the GleebleTM Machine, a thermo-mechanical simulator used to test heat treatments on metallurgical materials. He was proud to have been a long tenured part of a team that helped advance the manufacturing processes of rolled and welded metals.

Dick married his wife Sandra on April 5,1956 and was a proud father of seven children. He enjoyed spending time with his large family, frequently taking them to Mill Creek Park to walk the trails and visit the Rose Garden, with annual trips to Idora Park, where he had worked as a teenager. Summer vacations were spent together, fishing and swimming at Reno's Cabins at Lake Milton. Over the seventy years he resided in his Austintown home he enjoyed a simple life, cultivating his vegetable garden, doing yardwork, and sitting in the sun. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, canoeing and playing cards. He belonged to the Mill Creek Golf League for many years, and in 1978 during his time in a bowling league at the Struthers Bowladrome, he was an extra in the Oscar winning film "The Deer Hunter", starring Robert DeNiro and Meryl Streep.

Dick will be remembered as the loving, stalwart and steadfast head of the family, a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his surviving family members- his children Richard Miller, Michael (Debbie) Miller, Russell (Collette) Miller, Diana (Kenneth) Senyo, and Jennifer (Joel) Armstrong; his six grandchildren Michael John (Kelly) Miller, Valerie Paraiso, Caitlyn and Travis Miller, Clayton and Isaac Miller; his six great grandchildren, sister-in-law Eleanor Miller, and many loving nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra; his two sons, Brian and Gary Miller; his brother Hubert "Skip" Miller; his sister Virginia Miller; brothers-in-law, Richard, Dale and Ray, along with many other family members and relatives.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to his eldest son Rick Miller, Dad's primary caregiver during his final years. Rick had one rule we were all happy to follow, "Every day is Father's Day", and Rick's devotion will never be forgotten.

In keeping with Dick's wishes, there will be no service. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick's name to any local food bank, or plant a tree in his memory.

Professional arrangements handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
