Phillip R. Patti was released from this life on Thursday Sept. 25, 2025 with his brother Jim and nephew Jimmy by his side.

He was born Oct. 5, 1944 in Youngstown and was raised in Girard by his loving parents James and Louise Brennan Patti.

Known affectionately as "Big" Phil he was a proud 1962 graduate of Girard High school, where he played football for the Indians. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. Afterward, he worked as a dedicated steelworker with US Steel/ McDonald Steel from 1967 until his retirement in 2015.

Phil devoted 25 years to coaching football in the Valley. He was inducted into the Austintown/West Side Colts Hall of Fame and also coached Freshman football, and middle school football at Canfield, Boardman Spartans and Kennedy Catholic.

His most cherished years were spent coaching side-by side with his nephew Frank at Canfield Middle School. Up until his last days, he proudly spoke of his undefeated and unscored on 1986 team. Coaching was his passion and he considered it an honor to shape the lives ofyoung men through the years.. "Prayerize; Visialize; Energize; Actualize."

Phil was one of a kind, mischievous all his life. He built many close friendships and appreciated each one. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Chad, Kenny (Marissa), Rich, Rhonda and Devin for their enduring friendship and loyalty. When not coaching he enjoyed fishing, golfing, slots and poker.

Phil married the love of his life, Joanne Dama, Oct. 12, 1968 she preceded him in death in 2003. His beloved son, Philip, passed in 1995. Phil missed them deeply and lived with a broken heart. He will now be reunited eternity with his family.

He leaves behind his brother James (Jean), Nephews Frank and Jim (Carla) Patti, Niece Andrea (Jay) Skrobola and brother in law Richard.

Coach "Big" Phil will be missed!

"I believe I will be divinely guided, I believe I will take the right turn in the road, I believe God will make a way when there isn't a way."

Phil will be buried with his wife Joanne at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. A graveside service will be held at a later date
