Mary Wheland

AUSTINTOWN - Services will be Wednesday at 9:30 AM at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Mary Lou Wheland age 70 of Austintown who passed away early Sunday morning at Forum Northside Hospital from complications from emphysema.
Mary Lou was born February 23, 1934, in Youngstown, the daughter of Leonard and Nora Esposito DiBattista.
She had worked at Gray Drug Stores as a clerk for over 25 years before retiring, and had previously worked at Arthur Murray dance studio as an instructor, and had assisted her husband as a bookkeeper at their family business Wheland's SOHIO Service Station in Austintown.
She was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Church, was a longtime active member of Youngstown Women's Bowling Association, enjoyed crochet, and word puzzles, and especially enjoyed being involved in her children, and grandchildren's sporting, theatrical, and musical activities.
Her husband Ronald D. Wheland whom she married October 3, 1953, died March 12, 1998.
She is survived by three daughters, Claudia Marie Lynn Porch Wheland of Austintown, Rodney Ann Ken Madeline of Boardman, and Mary Louise Arthur K. Berquist of Austintown, a sister Dian Loeb of Austintown, a brother John Peg DiBattista of San Diego, California, five grandchildren, Rachael, Jason, and Ronald Madeline, and Bryan and Victoria Berquist, several nieces and nephews, and her dog Shelby.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters Philomena DiBattista, and Victoria Poprosky.
Friends may call from 2 to 4, and from 6 to 9 PM Tuesday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
