In loving memory of Mary Eileen McAtee, 82, who passed away May 26, 2024 at Humility House with her husband and children by her side. "Deanie" as she was known to family and friends, was a remarkable woman whose presence and faith brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was born December 7, 1941, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late, James P. and Agnes Reagan Griffin, and attended Ursuline High School and Notre Dame College of Cleveland.
A former teacher, Mary Eileen spent 35 years of her life educating children within the Dioceses of Youngstown Schools, most recently at St. Christine School. She taught everything, from reading with first graders to the gospel messages with high schoolers. Mary Eileen's passion for education extended far beyond the classroom, shaping the minds and hearts of countless students. Yet, her greatest role was that of a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, where her love knew no bounds.
Mary Eileen is survived by her husband, Charles "Mike" McAtee, whom she married Sept. 14, 1973; children, Sharon (Joseph) Nivert of Cuyahoga Falls, Timothy (Megan) McAtee of Vienna, VA, and Brenda (Nathan) Schroeder of Sunbury; step-daughter, Tracey (Doug) Stein of Canfield; grandchildren, Brianna Zohnd, Tyler, Hannah, and Ally Stein, William and Madeline Nivert, Kelsey, Jason, and Grady McAtee, and Ellie, Grace, Edie, and Cole Schroeder; and sister, Dwyn (Richard) Peake of Canfield.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Haitz and Kathleen Griffin; and brothers, John Griffin and Michael Griffin.
