YOUNGSTOWN — Mary DeSellems, born on Aug. 4, 1937, in Jersey City, New Jersey, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, at her residence. She was an extraordinary woman who made lasting contributions to her community and family.
Mary dedicated 18 years of her life to Community Mutual, where she was known for her diligence and kindness. A proud graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Jersey City, Mary carried the values of education and hard work throughout her life. Her interests were diverse; she found joy in cheering on the Fitch Falcons and was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, she cherished her time at the Austintown Senior Center, where she regularly participated in Dominoes and card games every Wednesday and Thursday. Traveling the world with her beloved husband was one of Mary’s greatest pleasures. Through her adventures, she created lifelong memories that enriched her life and the lives of those around her.
She was dedicated to her family and cherished every moment spent with them. Mary leaves behind her loving daughter, Shelley (Chuck) Sakely, and her sons, Chris (Diane) DeSellems and Jim (Mary Kay) DeSellems. She was a doting grandmother to her grandchildren, Brett (Reka Megyeri) Fidram, Courtney (Ryan) Ballard, Kelsey Sakely, Christopher (Stefanie) DeSellems, Matthew, Tommy and Jenna DeSellems. Mary also held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kenna and Orion Ballard, and Nora Fidram. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jeremiah and Edna Davis Murphy; her husband, Ronald DeSellems; and her son, Ronald E. DeSellems.
Friends and family are invited to honor Mary’s memory at a prayer service beginning at 10:15 a.m. Dec. 4, 2025, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home – Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave, Youngstown, OH 44515. Following the prayer service, there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Blaise Parish-St. Joseph Church, located at 4545 New Road, Youngstown, OH 44515.A visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday Dec. 3, 2025, at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Addison of Cornersburg, for their kindness and care during Mary’s residence over the last 18 months. The family would also like to thank the staff at Akeso Hospice, for their compassion and professionalism.
