Mary Bliss

YOUNGSTOWN - Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Mary K. Bliss of North Hazelwood Ave. who died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Bliss was born November 26, 1919, in Gocovo, Czechoslovakia, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Mertus Kirner. She came to Lore City, Ohio, in August, 1922, and moved to Youngstown in 1923.
She graduated from Chaney High School in 1937; Ohio State University in 1940 with a B.S. Degree in Education; M.S. from Kent State in 1954. She taught in Bowerstown, Vienna, Mineral Ridge, Youngstown Public Schools, and was an Office Information Systems Instructor at Youngstown State University.
Mrs. Bliss was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, American Association of University Women, Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association, Ohio State Retirement Association, and the Ladies Altar Guild of St. John's.
Mrs. Bliss was the recipient of the Martha Holden Jennings Scholarship Award, and served as a volunteer at the Youngstown Development Center, a residential center serving mentally handicapped citizens of the Mahoning Valley.
She leaves a son Ronald K. Bliss, three grandchildren, David Bliss, Wendy Highfill, and Mari Bliss, two great-grandchildren Chance and Chloe Highfill.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers Andrew, and Milan Kirner, and a grandson Matthew Bliss.
