Lawrence Hackett

November 13, 1927 — April 25, 2015

AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, for Lawrence R. Hackett, 87, who died Saturday afternoon at Hospice House surrounded by his family.

Lawrence Raymond Hackett was born November 13, 1927 the first child of Lawrence Joseph Hackett and Mary Agnes Horvath Hackett in Youngstown.

He attended St. Pat's and St. Matthias and graduated from Ursuline High School in 1945, where he played basketball and was prom king. During World War II, Larry served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Guam. While attending Dayton University he was a biology lab partner with Chuck Noll, making him a faithful Steelers fan and giving him an edge during football discussions over the Cleveland Browns faction of his family.

Larry married Catherine (Kitty) Rogers on June 8, 1951 and they raised their family of ten children in their home in Austintown. The children are Patricia (Tony) Tringhese, Lawrence (Lynn) Hackett , Terrence (Patty)Hackett , Timothy (Sharon) Hackett, Daniel Hackett, Patrick Michael (Cindi) Hackett, John Breen (Mercedes) Hackett , Mary Sue (Joe, deceased)Hammond, Annie (Jimmy) Hannis and Julie Hackett-Cho. He leaves behind 34 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren (75 direct descendants) and several nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed reading about history, hiking in Mill Creek Park with his grandchildren, watching the news, sports and Hogan Heroes on television. Larry enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sporting and school events. He was a past president of the West Side Colts Booster Club, a member of the Youngstown Traffic Club and a charter member of Immaculate Heart parish.

Larry was a self-employed Transportation Agent.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Louise Kane, son-in-law Joe Hammond and grandson Lawrence Hammond.

Family and friends may call Friday from 10:30 to 11:45 at the church.

The family would like to thank the staffs at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Hospice of the Valley for their care during his last two weeks
