Canfield- Funeral services will be held Noon, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Higgins Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Kay Marlene Leonhart, 74, of Canfield who passed away Wednesday evening, June 24, 2026, at her home.

Kay was born July 22, 1951, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Harold E. and Georgetta (Whittaker) Leonhart. She was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Austintown Fitch High School, class of 1969, and continued her education receiving her bachelor's degree in Nursing from Kent State and her master's degree from Gannon University in Erie, PA. Kay was a nurse in multiple areas over her 42 year career, she taught at the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing until its closing, and specialized in Diabetes Education for the last 15 years of her career at St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Kay was a certified Diabetes Educator and was named Diabetes Educator of the year in 1998. She was a member of the Mineral Ridge Church of Christ, the Women Working for Christ at the church, the Warren Jr. Military Band, where she played the French Horn, the Nurses Auxiliary Retirement Association at Mercy Health, the Diabetes Partnership for 9 years.

Kay loved music, she was an organist and played the organ at the church. She also loved to travel and visited many wonderful places throughout her life, including Europe and Disney trips with her cousins. She was also an avid Ohio State Fan.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, June 30, at the Higgins Reardon Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and again Wednesday July 1, from 11 AM until Noon, where services will begin at Noon. A private interment will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Diabetes Education Department of St Elizabeth Mercy Health in Boardman.
