Kathleen McCafferty

August 7, 1950 — May 30, 2025

BOARDMAN - Kathleen Marie McCafferty passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, at the age of 74.

Born on August 7, 1950, in Canton, Ohio, Kathy was the only child of the late John and Pauline Fontilla Parry.

Kathy spent her childhood in a loving home, where she developed a lifelong love of learning and music. She traveled the country with the Schoolband of America before pursuing a music education degree at Malone College. Later, after starting her family, she completed her education degree at the University of Akron.

Though Kathy worked in schools, banks, and retail, she would have told anyone her greatest accomplishment was her family. As a single mother, she was fiercely devoted to raising good, caring people who took an interest in the world around them, always encouraging her children to reach out a helping hand to anyone in need.

Kathy's vibrant spirit was reflected in her many passions and deep faith in God, humanity, and the world around her. She passed long drives introducing her children to the music of Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, and The Carpenters. She loved being surrounded by nature and could spend hours in a greenhouse, dreaming of her next garden. In later years, she became an avid Bigfoot enthusiast, delighting in the wonder of the unknown and teasing those around her who didn't believe.

Kathy's legacy lives on in her loving children-Ed McCafferty of Akron, Mandy (Vance) Lawman of Boardman, Tom (Kristen) Slevin of Cuyahoga Falls, and Charlie (Lauren) Slevin of Ravenna-and her grandchildren- Avery (17), Gabriel (14), and Charlie (4).

Kathy was laid to rest beside her parents at a private family graveside service at Henry Warstler Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road and Angels for Animals, 4750 West South Range Road, Canfield, Ohio 44406.

Professional arrangements were handled by Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.
