Josephine M. Subler, 87, of Boardman, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026.
Born on April 21, 1939, in Youngstown, Josephine lived a life imbued with kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Josephine graduated from Struthers High School in 1957 and cherished a fulfilling career of over 20 years as a Creative Service Director in broadcast television in Dayton. She won a regional Emmy for her writing.
Following her retirement, she returned to Youngstown, where she immersed herself in a community that she loved, reuniting with family and embracing the joy of watching her grandchildren grow.
A devoted member of St. Charles Church, Josephine cultivated a deep and substantial involvement in her Catholic faith. She served as a Leader of Prayer, Eucharist Minister, and an active participant in the parish's Evangelization, J.O.Y., Pastoral Counsel, Action and Stewardship committees. Her commitment to her faith extended to her participation in the Ursuline Associate Cursillista (Cursillo) community.
Josephine delighted in the company of her family, especially her cherished granddaughters, with whom she loved to explore the town during weekly outings. Known for her warm hospitality, she often entertained friends and family, creating memorable gatherings filled with laughter and delicious meals. She valued her friendships deeply, looking forward to her monthly lunches with her schoolmates and special dinners where stories and reminiscences would fuel joyous conversations. Her heart also held a special affection for her granddogs, who brought her endless joy .
Josephine is survived by her sons, James Manuel of Columbus and Jeffrey (Nicolette) Manuel of Boardman; and four grandchildren, Haley (Christopher) Wank, Marisa (Nicholas) Galouzis, Nicholas Manuel, and Andrew Johnson and one great grandson, Oliver Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Theresa Zillo Polito; a daughter-in-law, Xiomara Manuel; and many aunts and uncles.
Calling hours will take place at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, on Tuesdayfrom July 21 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, St. Charles Church at 11:00 a.m.
Following the services, Josephine will be laid to rest in entombment at Lake Park Cemetery.
