Joseph D. Smith

Joseph D. Smith, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born on April 18, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late Victor J. and Mary Williams Smith.

Joe was a proud graduate from Ursuline High School. After high school he worked at the family business of Smith Brake and Sons.
Joe began his career with Commercial Shearing for 10 years. He continued his working career that spanned 34 years with General Motors Lordstown and started as a line manager and later took on the responsibility of overseeing outside maintenance.

As a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, Joe achieved the esteemed rank of 4th Degree Knight. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church, where he was an usher for 18 years. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame, passionately supporting the team through thick and thin. His love for life was evident in the simple pleasures he cherished-whether it was enjoying old cars, listening to music, or relaxing on the front porch with a cold drink in hand. Nothing was more dear to him than spending time with his granddaughters.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hodos Smith with whom he married May 18, 1957; his daughter, Anastasia "Stacey" (Joe Meyers) Wilson of Boardman; his son, Joseph V. Smith of Seffner, FL; three grandchildren, Candice (Richard) Kridler, Brittany Smith, and Crystal Wilson; three great grandchildren, Cloie Lamoureux, Joseph Lamoureux, and Iseah Mathis; and his sister, Charlene Smith of Youngstown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ Our Savior Parish, St. Nicholas Church on August 25, 2025, at 11:00 am, following a period of calling hours that will be held from 10 to 11 AM at the church.
