POLAND -- JoAnn M. Maga passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the age of 81.
She was born on Jan. 8, 1945, in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph Petrus and Mildred Willich Petrus.
A 1962 graduate of Springfield High School, JoAnn continued her education at Youngstown State. Throughout her life, she remained a devoted member of St. Luke Church, where she sang in the choir. JoAnn devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, serving as the heart of her home with remarkable skill, dedication and love. A talented gardener, cook and baker, she expressed her love through beautiful meals, homemade treats and flourishing gardens. She also had a special affinity for collecting rare Corelle plates, a hobby that reflected her appreciation for beauty and tradition.
JoAnn never met a stranger. Blessed with the gift of gab, she could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere and had a remarkable ability to make people feel like old friends within minutes. Her warmth, humor and genuine interest in others drew people to her; and she formed lasting connections with individuals from all walks of life.
Above all, JoAnn cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. Her kindness, generosity, unwavering devotion to her family and infectious love of people will be remembered always.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Raymond Maga, whom she married on May 31, 1969; daughters, Tina (Joel) Hughes of New Middletown and Joni (Bryan Sereny) Maga of Miami Beach; brother, David (Jane) Petrus of Cincinnati; and grandchildren, Anna, Jenna, Dayna and Nina Hughes, and Luke and Grace Sereny.
In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her brother, Bob Petrus.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Road, Poland, OH 44514.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Catherine of Siena Parish-St. Luke Church, Youngstown. Prior to the Mass, prayers will be offered at 10:15 a.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.
