Jean Mcclure-Kelty

BOARDMAN - Memorial services will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel for Dr. Jean McClure- Kelty age 77 of Boardman who died suddenly of a heart attact early Friday morning at her home. Dr. Kelty was born March 13, 1926 in Warren, the daughter of John E. and Effie Moss McClure. A graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, she began her college education at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory, and had studied voice at Julliard School of Music. She then graduated with honors with a BA in English from Youngstown University, and later recieved her Masters Degree with honors in English from Western Reserve University, and her Ph.D. in English from Case Western Reserve University.
She was a Professor Emeritus at Y.S.U. where she had taught English for over 30 years before retiring, and had served as President of its Senate.
She loved animals, and an advocate for animal rights. She founded Animal Charities in 1962, and was currently serving as President and CEO. She was a member of the Humane Society of the United States in Washington DC., and had served as its Director of Bibliographical research. She had also hosted a local call in talk show on animal care and wildlife concerns "Down To Earth" which aired Saturday mornings on WBBW-AM for the past 10 years.
She was alos the founder and director of the Victorian Players at the Little Theatre off Spring Common, where she wrote, directed, and occasionally performed in its plays.
She is survived by her husband Perc M. Kelty, whom she married September 29, 1951, and a nephew Atty. Douglas McClure of San Francisco, Californina.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Clive E. McClure, and an infant sister. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
