Janice A. Nemergut

Oct 4, 1946 — Aug 12, 2026

Boardman, Ohio - Private graveside services were held for Janice A. Nemergut, 79, of Boardman, formerly of Cleveland, who passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2026, after a battle with cancer.

Janice was born October 4, 1946, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Angelo H. and Helen L. (Detell) Gioglio. She was a 1965 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended Youngstown State University.

Janice spent her career as a Traffic Manager in the television news industry, working for WYTV Channel 33 in Youngstown for many years before moving to WJW Fox 8 News in Cleveland, where she retired in 2008.

Janice was an avid Cleveland sports fan - a diehard Browns fan and devoted Indians follower who never missed listening to the Tribe on the radio. Nothing beat heading to Browns games with her good friend Sue, and if you had a different opinion about the team - or about anything else - Janice was never afraid to share hers.

She loved the sun and the beach and treasured her trips to Myrtle Beach with friends. She was happiest with a deck of cards in her hand, hosting cookouts, and entertaining a house full of friends and family. She also enjoyed shopping, but most of all, Janice loved spending time with the people she loved.

Christmas Eve and her family's annual reunion were sacred to her - the moments she looked forward to all year. These nights were all about family, something her cousin Mary Lou always said best: "While the night is centered around food, the true meaning of the feast is family." For Janice, that meant parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents passing on family recipes each year, generation after generation, at the traditional Italian Christmas Eve gathering - a tradition she cherished and carried forward with love.

If you knew Janice, you knew she was always a friend - the kind of person you could call anytime, who showed up when it mattered, and who made everyone around her feel like they belonged. Music filled her world, too. She loved the Doobie Brothers, and Michael McDonald was her favorite - that unmistakable, soulful voice was one she'd turn up every time it came on. Her all-time favorite artist, though, was Carole King, whose song "You've Got a Friend" might as well have been written about her - a promise that no matter the distance or the hour, she'd be there.

Beyond music, she loved to read, and her Sunday sauce simmering on the stove was a weekly tradition that brought the family to her table.

But more than anything, Janice loved being a grandma. It was the role she was proudest of and the one that brought her the most joy - especially time spent with her grandsons.

Janice leaves to cherish her memory three children: Kris Kohuth and her husband Bill of Boardman; Scott Nemergut and his wife Allison of Hermosa Beach, California; and Lynn Opritza of Struthers. She also leaves her longtime companion and friend Joe Nemergut of Youngstown, her grandsons, Michael and Jake Kohuth of Diamond, and Brady Nemergut of Hermosa Beach, California, and also leaves many cousins.

Besides her parents, Angelo and Helen, Janice was preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Gioglio, who passed away just eight days earlier, on August 8, 2026.

Following Janice's wishes, a private graveside service was held at Belmont Park Cemetery, where she was laid to rest alongside her brother and their parents, followed by lunch at MVR.

Professional arrangements were entrusted to Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
