James E. Buist

COLUMBIANA - James E. Buist, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 15, 1938, in Youngstown, the son of Emmett and Pelagia Kondzielski Buist.

A 1957 graduate of Ursuline High School, James dedicated himself to his career, serving as a machine shop operator for Wean United for 30 years. His strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were hallmarks of his professional life. Beyond his career, James was also a veteran of the United States Air Force, where he proudly served during the Korean War and was stationed in South Africa.

James had a zest for life that extended into his personal interests. He enjoyed bowling and golfing, filling his leisure moments with sports that brought him joy. A lifelong fan of Cleveland sports, he delighted in each game. However, his greatest love was always his family. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, finding immense pride in their accomplishments.

He took great pride in his home, often found tinkering with projects around the house, ensuring it was a welcoming space for his loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Janet Fennell, whom he married on October 22, 1983. James leaves behind his children: Karen (David) Kiger of Boardman, Deborah (Kenneth) Martin of Columbiana, Kimberly (James) Ward of Las Vegas, Jim (Dana) Buist of Canfield, Kenny (Rosa) Krecken of Boarman, and Kathy (Kurt) Scheetz of South Port, North Carolina. In addition, he is survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who will carry on his legacy.

James was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Michael Buist.

Visitation will be held on November 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home - Poland Chapel, 2726 Center Rd, Youngstown, OH 44514. A second visitation will take place on November 22, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM at St. Patrick Church, 1410 Oak Hill Ave, Youngstown, OH 44507, followed by a Mass at 10:30 AM.
