George P. Sanko

October 2, 1953 — October 25, 2025

CANFIELD - George P. Sanko, 72, died Saturday, October 25, 2025, at home, after a multi-year battle with kidney disease.

George was born October 2, 1953, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Stella and George Bunjack. At the age of 3, after his mother’s death, George was adopted and raised by Stella’s sister Ann Sanko. Ann preceded him in death.

He leaves behind his two sisters, Sandra Holleran and Marsh McGlynn and brother-in-law, Jay McGlynn. George is also survived by his cousins and lifelong friends, Craig Suhar, Michael Suhar, Beverly Acinapuro, Mary Sanko, Bob Sanko and Mike Sanko.

George was a graduate of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School. George worked at U.S. Stell – Ohio Works before starting his own business Just Ask George, (JAG), in which he fixed cars, homes or anything else you “asked him to fix”.

George started making people laugh and collecting friends in kindergarten. He had sharp and creative wit. Throughout his life, strangers quickly became friends, and many remained so for life. His wit and humor diffused many tense situations and warmed many hearts. His jokes were primarily aimed at himself, but when his quick wit was directed at others it landed softly with a hearty laugh and a warm smile. George has a kind and generous heart and often would come to the rescue of others in need. He had the all-too-rare gift of making people feel better about themselves.

George, Sandra, Sandra’s late husband Jim Holleran, Marsha and Jay, enjoyed countless vacation adventures together and an uncommon bond of love and friendship. Some of George’s happiest moments were spent with Sandra, Marsha and family members.

Those who have loved George know that tears of sadness will quickly give way to lasting memories of his warm smile, his generous spirit, and his unbridled love of the people in his life.

A viewing is scheduled from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Friday, October 31, 2025, at St. Christine Church Christian 3165 S. Schenley Ave., Youngstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. that Friday morning at St. Christine Church.
