Fred M. Bassett

MACEDONIA -- Fred M. Bassett peacefully passed away of lymphoma on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026, at University Hospital in Cleveland.

He was born Dec. 8, 1940, in Youngstown, a son of Fred J. Bassett and the former Eleanor Rulli.

Fred graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1958 and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. After decades of service, he retired as a lieutenant with the Austintown volunteer fire department and retired from General Motors after 31 years.

Fred's generosity and duty were known throughout the community. Without hesitation, he always put his family first and loved spending time at his grandchildren's events and playing dominoes with family and friends. His everlasting love and kindness will be greatly missed.

He met his wife, Carol L. Frondorf, at a hair styling show, and they were married for 49 years, until Carol passed away in 2015.

Fred leaves a son, Paul M. (Linda) Bassett; a daughter, Amy R. (Taige) Zender; five grandchildren, Ian and Audrey Bassett, Caleb, Jared and Zachary Zender; and a sister, Carole J. (Edward) Santor.

Family and friends may offer their condolences to the family from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at the Western Reserve Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, OH 44406, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
