BOARDMAN - Eileen Thompson (née McCarthy), 76, of Boardman, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House.
Eileen was born June 20, 1948, in Youngstown, OH, to the late James and Catherine (Baker) McCarthy.
She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1966 and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Youngstown State University.
Eileen dedicated her professional life to teaching, retiring in 2011 after 30 years at St. Charles School in Boardman, where she taught first and third grade. She was a devoted educator who left a lasting impact on countless students and families.
A loving mother, grandmother, and teacher, Eileen centered her life around her family and the children she nurtured-both in and out of the classroom. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren. Whether enjoying a meal or sharing a cup of coffee, Eileen loved engaging with family and friends about current events and world affairs. A passionate sports fan, she was particularly devoted to her beloved Cleveland Guardians.
In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her brothers, Francis and Thomas McCarthy; brothers-in-law, Burdette Baker, Donald Tait, Edward Maloney, and Ronald Lawrence; and nephews, James Baker and Daniel McCarthy.
She is survived by her daughter, Erin Thompson of Sonora, California; two sons, Ryan (Miranda) of Newton Falls, Brad (Julie) of Rochester Hills, MI.; 5 grandchildren Nathan, Evan, Harper, Brody, and Colton; four sisters, Marian Baker of Boardman, Elizabeth "Betty Lou" Tait of Calgary, Kathleen Maloney of Boardman, Margaret "Peggy"; Lawrence of Austintown; and six brothers, James (Annette) of Austintown, Jerry (Kay) of Canfield, William (Marilyn) of Erie, Pa., Michael (Katie) of Austintown, Timothy of Boardman, and Terry (Mary Anne) of Canfield.
In keeping with Eileen's wishes, a celebration of life with family and close friends will be held this summer in lieu of formal funeral services.
