AUSTINTOWN - Donald Lyle Hilbert passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, at the age of 67.
He was born on January 9, 1959, in Youngstown, OH, a son of Donald Hilbert and the former Louise Ferguson.
He grew up on Youngstown’s East Side and was never without a story from his beloved ‘old neighborhood.’ He cherished his time and the friends he made on Holland Avenue.
Donald worked at K-Mart Distribution Center for 35 years, and was part of the last group of workers to leave the Bazetta Warehouse upon its closing. Known to most as ‘Hilly’, he he was a dedicated founding member of the UAW Local 1112.
He had a passion for motorcycles, enjoyed woodworking and found great joy in crafting birdhouses. Don truly loved and cherished his family, especially his grandkids. Being affectionately known as ‘Papa’ was one of his greatest accomplishments in life. He often spent long summer days with them, and was particularly fond of those spent fishing with his grandsons. He never missed a chance to gather with friends, where conversation, laughter, and a good story were always in abundance.
Donald is survived by his wife, the former Sally J. Sedmak, whom he married on November 14, 1981; daughter, Dana (Mike) Bodnar; sisters, Debra Hilbert, Dawn Hilbert, Denise "Angel" (Dan) Webster, Cindy (Mike) Wilson; brother, David (Donna Averill) Hilbert; three grandsons, Jude Hilbert, Dalton and Mitchell Bodnar; granddaughter, Harlow Beadle; and step mother, Betty Hilbert.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his son, Dustin L. Hilbert.
In keeping with Donald’s wishes, there will be no funeral services but a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In his memory, his family asks that you take a ride, cast a line, drink a Budweiser or simply tell a story about him with your loved ones.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Family and friends are invited to visit www.higgins-reardon.com to share memories and condolences.
