COLUMBUS — On May 9, 2024, Claire Elizabeth McLaughlin, our dear daughter, mother, sister, cousin and friend, departed this life after a hard-fought battle with mental illness.
Claire was born on Sept. 14, 1980, to Steve and Peggy O’Connell McLaughlin in Youngstown.
After graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School in 1998, Claire went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Youngstown State University, where she also worked in the athletic ticket office. She worked at Nationwide for the past eight years, where she found joy in her work and colleagues.
Claire loved people, especially her family and particularly enjoyed weddings and other celebrations where she was predictably first on the dance floor. From a young age, Claire, ever the performer, led her cousins and friends in many self-directed plays and choreographed dances. She was a cheerleader and on the dance line in high school. Claire also was an avid fitness enthusiast and found peace amongst her gym friends, both in Ohio and Clearwater, Florida, where she lived for several years.
Claire was the proud mother to Juliana and Luke, whom she loved more than anything. Together, they loved going to the movies, spending time at the zoo and finding other fun seasonal activities, like Zoombezi Bay. She found joy in the company of family pets, especially dogs. Her family will most miss her infectious laugh and joyful smile.
Claire was preceded in death by her grandparents, Thomas and Teresa O’Connell, and Jack and Virginia McLaughlin; and her uncle, George O’Connell.
She is survived by her two children and their father, Kerry Boldish; her parents; siblings, Jack (Adrian) McLaughlin, Sharon (Zack) Ensign and Lauren (Joshua) Terrell; as well as her nieces, nephews, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, 3701 Starr’s Center Drive, Canfield, OH 44406, where a rosary prayer offering will begin at 7 p.m. to conclude calling hours.
A funeral Mass to honor her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, with a luncheon to follow in the church hall.
She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, in Claire’s honor, to St. Dominic Catholic Parish, 77 E. Lucius Ave, Youngstown, OH 44507 or the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium www.columbuszoo.org/zoo-fund or PO Box 400, Powell, OH 43065.
