NILES — Carol Szymanski passed away Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the age of 83, at Niles Way Assisted Living.
She was born July 21, 1942, in Youngstown, to Michael and Mildred Scaglione Benincasa.
A 1960 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, she went on to work in retail sales at Abraham’s Clothing Store and Strauss Department Store.
It was at the Abraham’s Store that she met the love of her life, Joseph Szymanski. They married on Aug. 3, 1968, and shared a beautiful life together until Joseph’s passing on April 29, 2018.
Carol assisted her parents on their family farm, which was located on Kirk Road in Austintown. Her dedication to the farm involved selling freshly harvested produce. During her time on the farm, she enjoyed carving and painting pumpkins. She was very creative and took great pleasure in making ceramics.
Carol is survived by her sister, Phyllis (Joe) Altobelli of Girard; nephews, Michael Fonda, Cindy (Randy) Ciminero, John Fonda, Nick Altobelli and Joey Altobelli Jr.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Szymanski.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
She will be interred in Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
