Brian M. Welsh

Boardman Twp. -- Brian M. Welsh, 56, of Boardman Twp, passed away early Saturday morning,

March 14, 2026, at his home with his loved ones by his bedside after a short battle with cancer.

Brian was born on January 5, 1970, in Youngstown, son of the late Robert and Alice (Shea) Welsh.

Brian graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School, class of 1988 and went on to continue his

education graduating from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. He was dedicated to his

profession and started his career in 1992 with the Mahoning County Sheriff Department before

taking a position in 1994 with the Youngstown Police Department and moving up the ranks to

Lieutenant. Over the years, Brian was assigned to many of the units within the Police

Department. His interest in drones quickly led him to start the Police Department's first drone

unit. He was very proud of serving and protecting the city he grew up in and loved for 32 years.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of St. Luke Church and

grew-up as a member of St. Dominic Church, where he attended grade school and served as an

altar server.

Brian's love for reading lead him to explore many different things that interested him. Some

people would consider him a polymath. He loved fishing, a good bonfire, traveling to see

family, going to Canada, going on big family beach vacations, and hanging out with his beloved

pets Remi, River and Boo.

Brian leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Holly Craig, whom he married

November 7, 1998, his daughter Brynna Welsh, a sister, Darlene Welsh-Smith of Youngstown,

three brothers, Jim Welsh (Mary) of Jefferson, NH, Steve Welsh (Diane) of Boardman and

Patrick Welsh (Linda) of Boardman, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great

nephews, and friends.

Besides his parents, Brian was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Welsh Jr.

A memorial mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 10 AM in St. Dominic Church,77 E Lucius Avenue Youngstown, Ohio 44507
