Bernard Kelly

Bernie Kelly, 73, passed away at home on August 15, 2026. Born on January 9, 1953, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Bernie grew up with a strong sense of hard work, and quiet determination - qualities that shaped the life he would go on to lead. Bernie spent his early years in Austintown, Ohio, where he graduated from Fitch High School in 1971. After a brief time in Austintown following graduation, he moved to Miami, Florida, beginning a long and dedicated career with the Florida East Coast Railway. As an engineer, Bernie devoted 31 years to the railway, earning the respect of colleagues and forming lifelong friendships along the way. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Sara Elizabeth Kelly, who passed away in 2000 from cystic fibrosis, as well as his parents, Charles and Rita Kelly. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life. Bernie leaves behind his loving son, Christopher Kelly; his sister, Madeline Scannell, and brother‑in‑law, Richard Scannell; along with many cherished cousins and dear friends who will remember him for his gentle spirit, steady presence, and the warmth he brought to every relationship. Bernies' legacy is one of humor, stubbornness, his family, his work, and the simple joys that made his life meaningful. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
