AUSTINTOWN - A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Michael Richard Zokle, 78, who died peacefully on Thursday at home surrounded by his family.
Michael was born May 14, 1939, in Campbell, the son of George and Katherine (Trumfio) Zokle.
He was a 1956 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.
He served 15 years as a Union President for the Cement, Gypsum and Lime Workers Union before working as a team leader in the cleaning and maintenance industry for many years until retiring.
Michael played football at Campbell Memorial High School, lettering his senior year, and was part of the 1955 Steel Valley Conference Championship team.
He loved all sports, hotrods, especially 1955 and 1957 Chevys, and going to the beach with his wife.
Above all, Michael was a loving and devoted husband, a dedicated father to his children and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly.
Michael is survived by his wife, Emily (Turacek) Zokle, whom he married June 22, 1961; three daughters, Barbara (James) Martino of Struthers, Linda (Terry) DeSalvo Sr. of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Diane Zokle of Chargin Falls; two sons, Mark (Christina) Zokle of Sandusky and Michael (Michelle) Zokle of Charleston, S.C.; sister Dolores (Gerald) Savo of Austintown; brother George (Kathy) Zokle Jr. of Austintown; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the church.
Michael was always a supporter and contributor to Veteran Affairs, so the family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Department of Veteran Affairs, 2031 Belmont Ave. Youngstown, OH 44505.
