Wayne Biddlestone

POLAND - Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Poland United Methodist Church for Wayne G. Biddlestone, 94, who died early Friday morning at Hospice House.

Wayne was born Oct. 10, 1922, in Niles, the son of Glen and Thelma (Kennedy) Biddlestone.

He was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended Youngstown State University. Wayne was veteran of the U.S. Navy and served his country during World War II.

Wayne worked for Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a chief draftsman for 35 years until retiring in 1975.

He managed Little League and Pony League Baseball in Poland for 17 years and won the Pony League State Championship in 1968. Wayne was later inducted into the Poland Baseball Hall of Fame.

Wayne enjoyed golfing and his fishing trips to Canada over the last 60 years.

His first wife, Rena Bickerstaff, whom he married June 28, 1943, died May 31, 1967. Wayne's second wife, Elizabeth Shurilla Bero, whom he married Nov. 27, 1970, died July 3, 2016.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Jane (Rev. Barry) Walker of East Palestine; son Glen R. (Helen) Biddlestone of Columbus; two stepdaughters, Suzanne Pinkerton of Austintown and Mary Beth Hostetter of East Palestine; three stepsons, Edward (Rose) Bero of New Middletown, Thomas (Moggie) Bero of Poland and Robert Bero of Youngstown; two grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 15 step great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother Willis W. Biddlestone.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at church.
