Ronald Pentz

January 11, 1927 — November 22, 2015

CANFIELD - Ronald C. Pentz passed peacefully to Heaven on the morning of Sunday, Nov. 22. At his side were his loving wife and family.

He was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Scranton, Pa., to Charles and Amelia (Voight) Pentz.

"Ron" leaves his wife of 67 years, Joanne (Sauer) Pentz; sister Gwendolyn Grooms Doyle; and children Cole (Sandy) Pentz, Carrie (Andrew) Razzano, and Ronald C. Pentz Jr. He also leaves eight grandchildren, Tucker (Kapri) Pentz, Elizabeth Geragi, Maggie (Rick) Law, Tabitha (Jay) Chaney, Ronald C. Pentz III, and Colin Pentz. Ron also leaves eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ron graduated from Howland High School in 1944. He then served in World War II as an aircraft traffic director and aircraft tower control operator in Norfolk, Va. After the war, he earned his private pilot license. He courted his future wife, Joanne, by airplane, flying between Warren and Chagrin Falls.

Ron worked as a printer apprentice at The Warren Tribune for four years and then followed by 42 years with The Youngstown Vindicator as a printer and composing room foreman.

Ron served as a volunteer fireman in Austintown for five years. He was the past president of the Diehl Lake Corp. and past president of local No. 200 Typographical Union. He was a member of Carroll Clapp No. 255 Masonic Lodge, The Saxon Club, American Legion Canfield Post 0177, and the Lake Milton Association. Through the years, he was an active member at the YMCA, the Salem Golf Club & CC, Short Circuit Radio Control Club, and the following golf leagues: The Saxon, The Vindicator, Davidson, and the Bob Roth Tour.

His hobbies included boating, swimming, traveling and most of all, golf. He and Joanne loved to dance and belonged to the Skylark and Carousel Dance clubs for many years.

In Ron's long life, he met and made friends with all he encountered. He loved to tell stories and jokes. Until the end, his mind was very sharp and he loved to recall and talk about the people and experiences in his life. He was always the life of any party or gathering.

He will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. He now joins his army of friends who have gone before, and will wait patiently for the rest.

Ron was laid to rest at Dean Hill Cemetery in Canfield, with a military service on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

A celebration of Ron's life will be held Sunday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m. at his church, the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road (Route 62), Canfield. Family and friends are welcome.

The family requests any monetary contributions be made to WR United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512.
