MICHAEL T. (MICKEY) WILKOS
Michael T. Wilkos, born December 16, 1935, passed peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Austin Woods Nursing Center in Austintown, Ohio surrounded by his wife, family and friends. True to his nature, he took on the challenge of Parkinson's with persistence and tenacity, fighting his own illness, while continuing to care for his loving wife, Connie who struggles with dementia.
Michael was a 1950 graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic Grade School and a 1954 graduate of Struthers High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army with training in Atomic Weapons at Sandia Base New Mexico and had been stationed overseas. A member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, he served his career as an electrician and electrical estimator for a various companies, most recently, Bruce & Merrilees Electric Company, from which he retired. He was also a lifetime member of the Lowellville Rod & Gun Club.
Michael had a special talent for forging everlasting friendships, and making new friends no matter where he went, an incredible ability to fix almost anything that was broken, and he took great pride in meticulously caring for his home. He loved to hunt, music and dancing, John Wayne movies, Ohio State football, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
He touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know him and he will be sadly missed by all.
Married July 29, 1961, a devoted husband and loving father, he is survived by his wife, Connie, daughters Christine (Mike) Minnow of Canfield, Ohio, Rebecca Babyak of Naples, Florida, and son Michael Wilkos of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Michael P. Minnow of Boardman and Mason Minnow of Canfield, sister-in-law Gerry Peet and brother-in-law Raymond Peet of Ontario, Canada.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Michael J. Wilkos, mother, Katherine D. Wilkos (Pushkar), twin brother Thomas, and sisters, Bernice and Virginia Wilkos Carrissimi.
The family would like to acknowledge the comforting care provided Austin Woods Nursing Center and Hospice Crossroads during his prolonged illness.
Family and friends may gather Saturday, August 5, 2017 from 9:00a.m. to10:15 where a prayers service will be held at 10:15am at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home Boardman-Canfield Chapel, 3701Starr's Center Drive. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive Boardman. Interment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
