BOARDMAN - Prayers will begin Thursday at 11:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Christine's Church, for Loretta Ann Kosar, 85, who died Friday at home.
Loretta was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Youngstown, the daughter of George and Mary (Kramer) Yurko.
She was a graduate of Ursuline High School and received an associates degree in Education from Ursuline College in Cleveland. Loretta taught second grade at Holy Name School for five years before retiring to raise her family.
Loretta was a devoted wife and caring mother to her four children. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to her family.
She enjoyed reading and playing cards, but mostly looked forward to hosting her children and grandchildren for Sunday dinners.
She and her husband firmly believed in family time and in 1969, began a tradition that continues today of a summer vacation to the Outer Banks.
Her life was characterized by deep faith, generosity and love for her family.
Loretta is survive by her husband of 61 years, Leonard Kosar, whom she married Aug. 25, 1956; two daughters, Janet (Mark) Sechrist of Boardman and Karen (Mickey) Popovec of Canfield; two sons, Leonard Kosar and John Kosar, both of Erie, Pa.; sister Rosemary Munshower of Clarks Summit, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Alissa Sechrist (Jerry), Lindsay (Tom) Skook, Danielle Spencer, Anthony Spencer, Kellie Kosar, Kyle Kosar and Kaitlyn Kosar; and one great-grandson, Parker Skook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Rev. Augustine Yurko, O.S.B., Rev. William Yurko, John Yurko, and Thomas Yurko; and two sisters, Sister Mary William Yurko, O.S.U. and Jeanette Rigelsky.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
