Kevin Freaney

February 20, 1952 — November 3, 2014

CANFIELD - Prayers will begin Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Church for Kevin P. Freaney, 62, who died Monday afternoon at UPMC in Pittsburgh.

Kevin was born Feb. 20, 1952, in Olean, N.Y., to John R. "Jack" and Jean M. Wallace Freaney.

He was a 1970 graduate of Ursuline High School and a graduate of Youngstown State University. Kevin was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. He began his career in sales at Commercial Intertech, assuming positions of increasing responsibilities in Atlanta and Charlotte as the Regional Sales Manager of the Southeast and ultimately returned to their headquarters in Youngstown. He was also Director of Sales at Compco Industries, and most recently worked in sales for Youngstown Pipe and Steel. It was there that Kevin found a true home and inspirational work place.

The family would especially like to thank Don Caiazza and the rest of the team for their support and kindness.

Kevin is survived by his wife, the former Karen Moran, whom he married May 21, 1977; his mother, Jean M. Wallace Freaney of Canfield; two sons, Kevin M. (Heather) Freaney of Atlanta and Jonathan Freaney of Chicago; a sister, Maureen (Peg Cummings) Freaney of Dunedin, Fla.; two brothers, John (Sally) Freaney of Boardman and Joseph (Doug Krauss) Freaney of St. Louis; and a grandson, Landon Freaney.

He was preceded in death by his father; mother-in-law Mary Louise Moran; and father-in-law Gabriel Moran.

Kevin was a lover of sports. He found his most joy when coaching and mentoring his two boys through various youth and school basketball leagues. Kevin was an avid golfer, never missing the opportunity to carve out time in the day to play 18 holes with his sons, close family, and friends. He was a lifelong fan of Cleveland sports teams.

This past year, Kevin courageously fought a tough battle with cancer. Kevin was an inspirational example of how to face life's toughest challenges and still maintain one's character with great dignity.

Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley in Mahoning County, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512.
