Julie Glenellen

YOUNGSTOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Julie Anne Glenellen, 90, who died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.
Julie was born Dec. 24, 1923, in Youngstown, to James and Julia (Welsh) Downey.
She was a 1942 graduate of South High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Julie worked as a WAVE for the U.S. Navy and performed secretarial duties while stationed at Arlington Farms in Arlington, Va.
Julie was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to care for four generations of family members. She was a member of many card clubs, bowled at Westside Lanes and was a fantastic cook. Julie loved reading, gardening, roses, and vacationing at the beach. She was also a very devoted Catholic. Most of all, Julie enjoyed the time she spent with her family and loyal companion, her dog, Leo.
Her husband, Earl Glenellen, whom she married May 16, 1946, died April 8, 2000.
Julie is survived by her children, Judy Gries of Youngstown, James (Beverly) Glenellen of Boardman, John (Terri) Glenellen of Austintown, and William (Kathleen) Glenellen of Youngstown; brother, William (Virginia) Downey of Churchton, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Kellie (David) Stump of Columbus, William (Greta) Glenellen of Poland, Shannon (Chad) Fowler of Columbus, Jeffrey (Jenna) Glenellen of Boardman, Matthew Glenellen of Austintown, Kerri Gries of Boardman, Shanna (Brian) Laraway of Canfield, Katie Gries of Youngstown, James Glenellen of Youngstown, Michael Glenellen of Austintown and A.J. Glenellen of Youngstown; two step grandchildren, Kathy Eberhart of Deltona, Fla. and Tom Korchnak of Boardman; and 12 great-grandchildren, Noah and Cameron Stump, Connor, Meridyth and Alexandria Fowler, Drew and Luke Kornbau, Quinn and Josephine Laraway, William and Julia Glenellen, and Michael Glenellen.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rose and Kathleen; and brothers, James, Donald, John, Edward, and Patrick Downey.
Family and friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
Professional arrangements are being handled by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
