Gregory Schesler

November 18, 1939 — March 23, 2017

CANFIELD - Prayers will begin Monday at 9:15 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Gregory R. Schesler, 77, who died Thursday afternoon at Hospice House.

Gregory was born Nov. 18, 1939, in Youngstown, the son of Harry and Johanna (Socha) Schesler.

He was a 1957 graduate of Ursuline High School and served his country in the U.S. Army.

Gregory began his career at All Mark Stamp, then worked for Youngstown Sinter Plant. He eventually retired from WCI as a foreman.

He was a member of St. Christine Church, a member of the very first parish Renewal Team, and also was a Eucharistic minister. Gregory volunteered for Catholic Charities and also worked the St. Christine Festival every year. He also served as Cub Master for Cub Scouts.

In his spare time, Gregory enjoyed bird watching, baking and giving away pizzelles and vegetables from his garden. He was an avid bowler, and loved playing cards and was on Noday's Nighthawks dart team with his two sons.

Gregory is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Nagie, whom he married Sept. 22, 1962; two sons, Greg (Karen) Schesler Jr. of Youngstown and Joseph (Mary) Schesler of Canfield; daughter Suzanne Schesler of Parma Heights; and brother Harry (Margie) Schesler of Girard; three grandchildren, Michael (Stacy), Taylor (Chris) and Ben; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Emma, and one (Lewis) on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Rita Fleischer.

Family and friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may take the form of donations to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Road, Poland, OH 44514 or to the American Cancer Society.
