Frank Krizan

December 31, 1936 — December 6, 2014

NEW MIDDLETOWN - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church for Frank C. Krizan, 77, who died early Saturday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.

Frank was born Dec. 31, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of Frank and Anna (Petrich) Krizan.

Frank was a 1955 graduate of South High School. While attending South High School Frank was selected as an exhibitor in the fine arts galleries at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh.

After graduating, he began working at General Fireproofing before being called to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a combat radio operator with the 2nd Battle Group, 6th Infantry, serving in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. He was awarded for his expert marksmanship, being listed in the top 10 of his military group, and was honorably discharged in 1962.

Frank was very passionate about supporting the military men and women serving our country, promising they would never be forgotten or abandoned. His hope was to pass along from generation to generation how important it is to forever remember and celebrate our heroes, past and present.

Following his military service, he was hired at LTV - Republic Steel Corporation. He retired after 41 years of service in February of 2000.

On July 14, 1979, he married the former Effie Esposito Melnich, celebrating 25 years together until her death on Aug. 20, 2004.

Frank was a former member of the Christ Our King Parish in Hillsville, Pa., American Legion Post No. 290 of Columbiana, and the National Riffle Association.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many hunting trips with his friends. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and casino trips to Mountaineer.

Frank is survived by a sister, Julianne (Frank) Tabaka of Poland; a brother, John (Verda) Krizan of Beulah, N.D.; an uncle, Joe Petrich of Estero, Fla.; aunts Rose Kohowski of Youngstown and Millie Pintaric of Yugoslavia; his stepchildren, Eva Melnick, Linda DeCaria, Angela Huntmacker, and Stephen David Melnick; and many dear nieces and nephews.

"Special thanks to all of the friends neighbors and caregivers who watched over him when he was home, his daily visitors and the nurses and staff at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center. Frank loved you all."

The family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to the Wounded Warriors program or The Veterans of Foreign Wars, in his memory.

Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the Holy Family Church.

Professional arrangements are by the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Poland Chapel.

"May we remember our Veterans who gave up their tomorrows, so that we can have our todays. Duty. Honor. Country. God."
