Emil Bertolini

TALLHASSEE, FLA. - Emil J. Bertolini, 85, formerly of Austintown passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, at his home in Tallahassee.

Emil was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Youngstown, the son of Emil G. and Lucia (DePonte) Bertolini.

Emil was a former member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Emil was born and raised in Austintown, where he graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1948, and Youngstown College in 1953. He grew up in his father's family business of Bertolini Bros. Marble & Tile Co., where he worked from 1943 to 1977. He served in many capacities, including secretary/treasurer, vice-president, and partner. The Regency House in Austintown was a product of his creative ingenuity, where he was a partner from 1973 to 1993.

He loved his community and dedicated himself as an Austintown Township trustee from 1961 to 1973, and served as president, director of state of trustees and clerks, and president of the Mahoning County Health Advisory Council. He was also a long-time member of Austintown Kiwanis and served as president. He later moved to Tallahassee, where he continued his career in marble and tile as chief estimator and manager of T.J. Manning and Manning & Smith Tile Co., until he retired in 2013.

Emil had a passion for model slot cars, with a collection spanning six decades and documented in various publications. Emil was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, and will truly be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, whom he married on June 16, 1984; a son, Emil John Bertolini of Poland; two daughters, Janis (Jack) Daugherty of Youngstown, and Sandra (Todd) Belsan of Orlando, Fla.; sons Edward (Ginger) Stanley of Tallahassee, Scott (Earlena) Stanley of Girard, Ga., Thomas (Sara) Stanley of Appling, Ga., and Christopher (Kelly) of Nicholasville, Ky.; and his grandchildren, Daniel (Breanna) Bertolini, Jack Daugherty, Taylor Daugherty, Richard Emil Belsan, and Nathan, LeAnna, Josiah, and Avery Stanley.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sue Bertolini; a sister, Arthurina Bertolini; and three brothers, Dominic, Henry, and Rudolpho Bertolini.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, with a graveside service to follow at Calvary Cemetery.

The Bertolini family has requested that material tributes take the form of donations to Big Bend Hospice Foundation, www.bigbendhospice.org, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
