Abraham Hammond

There will be a Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial held on Wednesday May 17, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Maron Church, 1555 S. Meridian Road in Youngstown, with Chorbishop Michael J. Kail officiating for Abraham James Hammond, 91 who died Friday, May 11, 2018 at hospice house, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on January 7, 1927 in Youngstown, a son of the late Paul P. and Anna (Williams) Hammond. Abe served his country proudly in the United States Army as a telephone switch board operator during WWII. After returning home form the war, he worked as a conductor for Pennsylvania Rail Road Company then becoming Conrail Rail Road Company for 40 years. He was a devote member of St. Maron Parish. In his free time Abe enjoyed hunting, fishing and gambling but his most precious memories were spending time with his family whom he loved and cherished.
Survivors include his children; Abraham James (Jean Ann) Hammond Jr., of Austintown, Anna Marie Hammond, of Boardman, Helen (Gary) Elliot, of Berlin Center, Christina(Jason Cosa) Hammond, of Austintown, grandchildren; Lucas, Tyler, Noah, Christopher, Lee, Dylan, Jason, Jennifer, Christian and Kai, great grandchildren; Lacie, Zion, Petyon, and Emma who is on the way, a sister, Helen Maiorana, and a brother William Hammond
Besides his parents his was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, the late Winifred Ann Clark, whom he married on November 7, 1953, Winifred died on October 20, 2002 after 48 years of marriage. A sister Linda Terrago, and two brothers; Joseph Hammond, and Peter Hammond.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5 to 7pm at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, 4303 Mahoning Ave, and again from 9 to 9:50 am on Wednesday at St. Maron Church.
A Prayers of Incense Service will be held at 6:30 pm at the funeral home on Tuesday.
